Church History

New Life Worship Center-History

In May of 2003, Reverend Dennis M. Clodfelter obeyed the call of God to venture out, put his trust in him and start a ministry of his own. After talking with Denise Williams, David Clodfelter, Bishop Coleman Walker, KaJuana Hamilton the name of the ministry became New Life Worship Center. God instructed him to work towards building a church that would reach out to the community, and gave him a vision of what the ministry would look like, and what it could be for the community.

After a cook-out and meeting held at the home of Minister Katherine Watford a few people who felt inspired to follow and trust in “The Vision” that God gave Reverend Clodfelter; held their first service on June 19, 2003 at 400 Tanyard Street; at the eleven o’clock hour. The first sermon for the new church was titled “I Gonna tell my Daddy”. The church received The Article of Incorporation and Tax Identification with the new name-New Life Worship Center of Lexington, Incorporated a short time later.

In July of 2003, God led Pastor and congregation to an opportunity to purchase a small building and some land on Garden Drive from Reverend Larry Cope whose wife requested before her death that the land be used to have a church put on it. The congregation moved into the small building, but the growth of the congregation not only began to outgrow the building, but the shout began to put holes in the floors, therefore many renovations had to be done to the building to make it safe to have service in it. The renovations were made by David Clodfelter, Elwood Brown, Bishop Coleman Walker, David Robertson, Allen Bennett, John Clodfelter and others.

One Sunday after service the members held hands in a circle outside behind the little building, Pastor began to point to every piece of land that he wanted and began to pray. The congregation worked hard and held on to their faith, and within 2 years, were able to pay for both the original land purchase along with another piece of land adjoining the first. In May of 2004 Pastor Clodfelter married Denise who works with and beside him in the ministry. In 2006, the first part of “The Vision” was built, “The Fellowship Hall”.  The first service was held in the new building in July 2006 with Pastor Dennis M. Clodfelter delivering the eleven o’clock message. In October of 2006, Bishop Derek Kelly of New Faith delivered the three o’clock dedication message.

February 2012 the church was able to purchase a 2011-15 passenger van.

In May 2012 we were able to purchase a 12x28 storage building.

April 2016, The Youth department sponsored a program which allowed the church to pay off the church van about nine months early.

January 12, 2014, Bishop S. T. Green with the agreement of the Advisory committee members- Bishop Derek Kelly, Bishop Greg Hargrave, Bishop Otis Robinson announced that Pastor Dennis M. Clodfelter will be consecrated as Bishop at a later date, and is now Bishop-Elect. The evening message was delivered by Bishop Derek Kelly. January 24, 2015 Reverend Dennis M. Clodfelter was consecrated Bishop Dennis M Clodfelter. This blessed service was held at the New Hope Holiness Church with Bishop S. T. Green delivering the message.

During the eight-teen years of this ministry we have had eleven pass on in death. There have been some good times, some bad times, some people have come and gone. We might have started off in a building that flooded sometimes during morning service; we then moved into a small building which others called “The little Shack”; but God saw how thankful we were for the little things so he began to bless us with bigger things. In November of 2018 we were able to purchase a new church sign, May of 2019 New Life was blessed to have a new sound system installed (still working on the finished products), blessed us with a paved parking lot; and the Lord is not through with us.

New Life is blessed to have a shepherd that uses the bible as the foundation in all his teaching; and believes that the bible is the source for all guidance and direction for the sheep that God has given him. A few of the many sayings you will hear Bishop Clodfelter say is “Let’s see what the bible says”, “Anybody want to challenge me, make me prove it”, and “Oops I’m sorry did I say that out loud.” Bishop Clodfelter believes in preaching to your heart so you can make a change in your life.

We truly thank God for all the things He has done for the New Life Church Family.
